2024 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) Guides are Here!
In honor of Earth Day, the Springfield MRF Advisory Board (MAB) has published two regional Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) Guides! See the link to each guide below.

Both of the 2024 RRR Guides feature the detailed “What Do I Do With…?” section, which is painstakingly updated each year to provide the best disposal options for household items – from aerosol cans to yoga mats. They also do a deep dive into Plastics Recycling and provide information on local Household Hazardous Waste collections, municipal transfer stations and recycling options, and more.

“RRR North” – The 17th annual RRR North guide was inside the April 18 E-Editions and paper copies of the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Greenfield Recorder, Amherst Bulletin, and Athol Daily News. This issue focuses on squashing food waste. Learn how to reduce your food waste with food storage guides, and how easy it can be to compost the remaining food waste. Also, Textile Recycling, Room By Room Recycling, a Kids Page on Worm Composting, and more.

“RRR South” – The 16th annual RRR South guide was inside the April 19 E-Editions and paper copies of the Springfield Republican. Confused about the “chasing arrows” symbol on plastic recyclables? The article “Recycling’s Magic Numbers” will help answer your questions. Also, proper disposal of batteries, local Educational Resources (such as the MRF Advisory Board’s translated recycling videos), and “Recycling’s Most Unwanted” materials.

The Springfield Materials Recycling Facility Advisory Board (MAB), a recycling organization in Western Massachusetts, exists to promote recycling and to advise the Department of Environmental Protection and the Materials Recycling Facility about enhancing and sustaining recycling in the region. We are
inspired by a concern for our environmental future and we strive to communicate the importance of
recycling.

The Western Massachusetts Regional Recycling Program serves over 65 communities in the four
western counties of the state. The cornerstone of the program is the Springfield Materials Recycling
Facility (MRF). The MRF was started as a state program to promote recycling by making it readily accessible to the communities of western Massachusetts.
